The Water and Energy Research Group for Sustainable Agriculture (AEAS) is a consolidated research group of the Miguel Hernández University that focuses its activity on improving the efficiency of the use of water and energy in agricultural applications.

Water and energy are the main resources for the economic, social and environmental development of a territory. Both irrigated production and greenhouse production are cultivation systems with great economic weight in the province of Alicante and essential in the strategies of sustainable intensification of agricultural production and its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals through climatically  smart agriculture .

LINES OF INVESTIGATION
– Energy management: Energy management and renewable energies: Optimization of energy use, Efficient climate systems for the protection and improvement of the environment, quality improvement and agri-food production.
– Management of water resources: Water governance, sociology and politics of water management.
– Irrigation management: Management of irrigation water, sustainability and use of non-conventional resources. Crop modeling, productive response to abiotic stresses: temperature, salinity, water stress, radiation, heavy metals, toxicity, CO2.
– Digitization of agriculture: Big Data Technologies, Decision Support Systems, Remote Sensing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applied to agriculture. ICTs applied to water management.
